The Intelligent Approach has been specializing in services exclusively for America’s home building industry since 1981. Our services have been developed from our company’s years of experience in the home building industry, and from the founder’s background in onsite new home sales, sales management and positions as sales and marketing vice president, as well as suggestions from the industry’s top sales managers and trainers.

Our services provide consumer‐based research through phone interviews with our client’s prospects and buyers, with the results providing unique insights into their decision‐making process and perceptions. Unlike typical telemarketing, these interviews are conducted by our staff members who are highly trained, experienced in housing, and expert in the art of interviewing. Our interviewers recognize every customer communication is invaluable to our clients, assuring positive, high‐quality interactions with everyone we contact. As a result, our interviews are sound public relations on the home builder’s behalf. During our 31+ year history, we have interviewed tens of thousands of prospects, buyer and homeowners.

Tom Jansen, President

Tom began his housing career in 1978 as a new home salesperson, then as a Sales Manager and a Sales and Marketing Vice President. In 1981, he formed The Intelligent Approach, having experienced the expectation by management that his sales and marketing decisions be based on his personal opinions rather than on data, facts and market opinions. In his role as the primary consultant for TIA, he has offered his services on an interim, full‐time basis to clients who had temporary vacancies in their senior sales and marketing management positions.

His combined experience as a consultant and as a senior manager responsible for contributing to a building company’s profitability and success has been the basis for the creation of all of our services. Tom has been the primary client contact and consultant throughout the history of TIA, helping builders solve thousands of challenges: sales rates; staffing evaluations, training and accountability; absorption projections; product design and redesign; and marketing and advertising (including the creation of targeted and unique in‐person strategies).

Linda Jansen, COO

Linda has a BS in Political Science/Behavioral Research from Arizona State University, and her background in opinion research and systems analysis contributed to the formation of The Intelligent Approach. Since 1983, her primary responsibilities have included the design and development of TIA services and systems, management of projects and production, client relations and consulting. Linda’s extensive housing‐based consumer research experience has been instrumental in the design of every consumer research project conducted by TIA, including questionnaire development essential for capturing the customer insights sought by TIA clients.
